At least two of the memos that former FBI Director James Comey leaked to the media contained classified information, and now the Department of Justice’s internal watchdog has launched an official investigation.
According to CNBC News, the inspector general’s office has kicked off an investigation into Comey to further determine if other memos he leaked contained classified information.
But more importantly, this could also mean that the IG’s office is considering a criminal referral for Comey, which is what the office did on Thursday for former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.
The IG’s office sent federal prosecutors a criminal referral on Thursday for McCabe because he lied to investigators four times about leaking information to the media in Oct. 2016 about the Clinton campaign.

After he was fired by Trump last year, Comey gave his memos to a friend and instructed him to give them to The New York Times. The left-leaning paper then published a report detailing the memos and using them to imply Trump was erratic and likely obstructing justice.
In one memo, Comey wrote that Trump had serious concerns about the Russia investigation and wanted to ensure no one on his campaign or administration had broken any laws.
Comey also wrote in another memo that he never felt Trump never broke the law or obstructed justice, which destroys a major talking point from the democrats and liberal media.
Comey admittedly leaked the memos to trigger the appointment of a special counsel, which led to Robert Mueller taking over. But it has backfired given there’s not a shred of evidence that Trump did anything wrong.
And now, Comey is under investigation for breaking law.
