Jim McIngvale is known to around Texas as Mattress Mack. He became well known offering or selling furniture, yet now he's being recognized everywhere throughout the country for his kindess during Hurricane Harvey.
At the point when many families were dislodged from their homes, he opened his stores to shelter and provide food to those in need. Because of his charitableness, several families have a place to rest and can eat 3 meals every day.
Before such huge numbers of displaced residents went to McIngvale's stores, he posted the invitation on social media and offered to use his company's moving trucks to rescue families trapped in their homes or stranded on highways. From around 2 p.m. on Sunday until 1 a.m., he stated, 10 to 15 of his company's moving trucks took to the flooded streets and helped rescue around 200 individuals.
"More than anything, for what looks like 100 miles is just water, water, water everywhere," he said. "It's really stressing to the community, but we're all positive we're going to come together."
During Hurricane Katrina in 2005, McIngvale opened two of his stores to 200 individuals who had fled New Orleans looking for shelter. In those days, those affected by Katrina remained for around two days. McIngvale does not know to what extent Houstonians inhabiting his stores now will remain there — yet his furniture stores will be open as long as they need it.
"We're just trying to supplement where we can," he said.
Some of those staying have even started contributing to administrative tasks to manage the shelter, such as helping make food. Also, others have helped by giving things like infant formula "It reaffirms your faith in mankind when you see people coming in and giving up what they don't need," McIngvale said. "There's an incredible outpouring of support. It's just tremendous."
A Change.org petition to was even created to laud McIngval. The petition to requests that Houston make a day in his respect and concede him the way to the city. This man is a Houston icon and deserves to be remembered forever," the petition says. One of the quickest developing petitions on Change.org on Wednesday, the appeal to has immediately achieved more than 42,000 supporters of the 50,000 required.
Jim realizes that he might be losing cash by protecting the surge casualties, yet he says 'We can afford that and what we can't afford is to cause these people to lose hope, we got to give them hope.' What a blessing to see this generosity of humanity during this catastrophic event.
The stores temporarily hold about 400 survivors so far, and McIngvale has posted pictures on Twitter and said more people are welcome.
Our GF N FWRY & GF Grand PKMcIngvale said it "broke his heart" when a 7-year-old girl came in with her parents at about 1:30am and tearfully asked if they could stay there.WY stores are open for those in need.
